Hervey Bay
23rd April 2025

"Be aware of Midges."

Hervey Bay has lovely beaches, and a great esplanades to walk along, weekend markets are good as well but it has issues. Council are keen to turn it into a mini Gold Coast with high rise holiday apartments. Ebikes and Escooters are a constant issue totally ignoring all traffic rules, then there are the MIDGES. Council allow developers to build close to mangroves then hide them behind native bush plantings, so buyers dont know the mangroves are close to their prospective home. If you live with in a kilometre of these mangroves your life will be miserable . You cant go outside your home, unless getting in a car to go down town. You cant sit outside or garden with out being eaten alive by midges that leave multiple itchy bites that itch day and night for days some times over a week. Constantly covering yourself in chemical protection, that has little effect. Council say nothing they can do. If thats the case why let developers build so close to the mangroves ? We have been here a year and desperately trying to sell and leave. Oh and the locals are not that friendly either.
It is now June and I just had to up date this review. MEDICAL. Lots of GPs no issue getting an appointment BUT when it comes to the Public hospital there are few words to describe how bad it is. NOT the staff lets make that clear. Fraser Coast has 121,000 residents, plus 1.5 million visitors per year. Hervey Bay its self has 65,000 residents the hospital has 200 beds !!!!!!!!!!! Few specialist, you must travel close to 4 hours to Brisbane to see a specialist. Wait list for outpatient 8 Months !!!!! when level 2 is recommended to be 90 days. Parking at the hospital is again beyond words, expect to park streets away and have to walk to the hospital. Enough is enough LOVE Hervey Bay but we are packing up and leaving.
