"Saturday Markets at Robelle"

Great Saturday market which keeps it real. New management say that they are keeping that great chilled vibe but introducing some fantastic free range and organic produce (always a plus). Kids are easily entertained with the park and waterslide. I love chatting to the stallies to see what's what, what's coming and they are SUCH lovely people. Markets are probably the best way to make sure those who are hardworking reap the benefits without having to go through a middle man. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Hornsby

"Hornsby Mall Shopping on Thursdays"

Every so often I get back to Hornsby and especially love it on a Thursday. After finding an organic market in another area, I wanted to see what the one on Thursday was like and it's seriously fantastic. It runs all day, there is some incredible produce (love the free range meat that you can buy), a fantastic plant guy, awesome organic fruid & veg, free range dairy, but the best find was a new stall called Moo & More. Their butter may be a little more expensive than the supermarket, but it lasts forever, melts on the tongue, you don't need a lot of it, it's from the Dairy Farmer direct so there's no middle man which in my books, is the best bit about markets like these. No middle man. You get to talk to the producers/farmers direct, you can chow down on some great gourmet food (crepe stall there rocks!), there's no mad rush by people and you have the fountain as the backdrop.

best value for money on a Thursday which is why I make the effort to get there every week!

If you are like me and have a full time job you wont get to ever see this market or even know it was on as it is for retirees and stay at home mums

Maybe if you are white collar, you could Work From Home that day? or maybe if blue collar, RDO? Seriously, you are way too negative Cyril

Chatswood

"Great little organic market on Saturdays"

Having been a devotee of shopping at Chatswood for over 20 years and watching it grow and expand, it was a lovely surprise to be an "accidental tourist" and stumble across a little organic market held in Chatswood Public School on Saturdays. For once I decided NOT to race from point to point and though I would grab a coffee, have a chat with the stallholder there (who is seriously nice) and talked about the difference between organic and other fruit & veg. It was a decision I have never regretted. Sure it may be a tad more expensive, but it is chemical and pesticide free produce and it lasted me for at least 2 weeks. You can definitely taste the difference and since finding this little Saturday "nook", I try to get back there as often as possible if nothing else than to take time out of an otherwise frantic world.

Thoroughly recommend it, don't be put off by the size cause it just means you don't have to compete with everyone for the same things.

Chatswood Public School

Double Bay

"Great Thursday Outdoor Market"

Each Thursday in Guilfoyle Park is a fantastic outdoor market that is a great alternative for not only fresh produce shopping but also for the kids. There is a jumping castle, pony rides and a baby animal zoo. With the breeze through the willows, the sound of the kids laughing and dancing to the musos (who will take requests for the Toddlers Top 10), you can get some beautiful organic fruit and veg, grab some lunch (gozleme proves incredibly popular with young and old), sit at a little Parisian style cafe chowing down on freshly made crepes (and the staff were full French stripes and berets!).

The number of prams seem to increase whenever I visit. A nice quiet place only 1 street away from the main drag which is nice.

Definitely worth a visit

Great for

  • Access to ferry, train and bus
  • Friendly safe neighbourhood

Rouse Hill

"New Organic Food Markets at Rouse Hill Market Square Saturdays"

it's relatively new and like all new things do needs community support which is what i think Rouse Hill has in abundance. It's important that we keep the "buy australian" mantra going and show that giving the Aussie a Fair Go is exactly that. I love the local crafts and people around this area and reckon with more people showing up to these markets it will grow, become a great alternative Family Activity and help support the local community!

Don't you worry about "More people showing up"…. 'The New Rouse Hill' has not been built yet.. when it has.. it would be more crowded.

and I'm not sure if you have heard. But I've done some research on why the government doesn't build large blocks like the older suburbs. And build small McManshions and cram up the areas hard like The Ponds.

its called "Agenda 21" …

Australia as well as approx 150 other nations has signed an agreement to STOP "Urban Sprawl"

The world has given up on controlling the population as they're could be nothing done but to cram population in urban liveable areas, keeping other lands free.

The idea for the Hills areas (since it was long agricultural land for farming).. the council will drive up the Cost of council rates for the farms due to the reason of zoning it for "residential zone"

eventually driving the farmers out, selling to large developers.

5 acre blocks in Rouse Hill, Kellyville as well as Box Hill etc.. will be subdivided to 30+ residential blocks. (hence, new suburb called Kellyville North)
One particular block is 20 acres which would fit approx 120 Residential blocks.

Once again, don't worry about a crammed population and bad traffic…. its coming this way…
