Mirrabooka

"Great place to grow up"

I moved to Mirrabooka as a child, nearly 11 years ago and I have loved living here.
We are friends with every one in the street, there is a little shopping village 4 minutes away, and it is safe enough to walk your dog at night. It is 10 minuets away from Morisset train station, and 15 minutes to the F3 freeway. The cost of living is moderate. People fish, play golf, ride bikes, go boating, walk their dogs, go to the gym, shop at Bonnells bay shops, Morisset Square, Westfield Tuggerah, Toronto Town Square, or Charlestown Square. Most of the kids go to Morisset High School, it has an average reputation but if you have a kid that wants to learn they will. If you have a child that needs a more shelterd environment I would recommend Charlton Christan College or Avondale. Every where from Silver Water, Sunshine, Bonnelles Bay, Yarrawonga Park, Balcolyn, and the surrounding suburbs are similar to Mirrabooka in lifestyle and people. Of course the newer areas are better, but they are also more expensive. The only negative thing i can think of is that our cars have been egged a couple of times in the past 11 years.

Great for

  • Good distance to Newcastle and Sydney
  • Friendly people, quiet, family neighborhood,
  • Good Internet, no crime, minimal traffic, lots of parking,

Not great for

  • Not many activities to do
  • The few derelict kids that egg cars when they are bored
  • Rentals are expensive

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Singles
  • Families with kids
  • Retirees
  • LGBT+

Blue Haven

"Avoid the old section"

I have been a resident in the old area for 5 years. In this time I have had my fence bashed down twice and my bins burnt to the ground my hoons. I regularly witness excessive speeding on Lady Laurel Drive. However the new area of Blue Haven is not as bad. I would not recommend the local San Remo Shops. This would be a great spot for an investor as it offers close to F3 access and has its own schools and good public transport.

Great for

  • Close to freeway
  • Quiet if you get a good spot

Not great for

  • Hoons, lots of derelict young kids in old area
  • Close to San Remo shops
  • Housing commission
  • People don't know how to negotiate the carpark with courtesy at the San Remo shops.
  • Sleepness nights every weekend if you pick a bad spot

Disagree about the "old" section birdwood drive is the best area.

Avoid - Lady Laurel Drive / Roper Rd / Colorado / McKeller - these streets often have kids as young as 8 wandering around until 3am. I would recommend buy in any cul de sac. Kids in the new area are unsupervised and walk out infront of cars wearing black clothes in the middle of the night so drive very slowly

i have lived in blue haven for over 20years and have not seen children as young as eight wandering the streets at night . my boys grew up here and went to the local schools . both my boys have great jobs . they used to take their 12 foot boat and go camping with there mates in the bush on the other side of the river. they would fish and sleep the night in tents. what a great childhood. you can't get that childhood growing up in most places. before the new area was built they would ride their bikes and play football in the muddy field near the local cottage with all the local kids. all the local children would go to the local river and swing on the rope swing in summer . they had a wonderful childhood . better than most kids. the river isn't polluted it's just a river like any other river . it does have silt in it from the rain but the only factory upstream is the tile factory and they don't use heavy chemicals to make tiles. the river is full of fish like bream ,mullet ,flathead and they say the odd shark after the schools of mullet. it's called spring creek because it has a natural spring at the end. . the Add a comment...

a lot of the people in the older area of blue haven are retired now. I work as a local tradesman and you will find trouble in all suburbs if you want to . I have worked in places like Terrigal ,Norah head, woongarrah and any other area you can think of and they all have the same problems. we are all Australian and the sooner we realise that most of us are good people the sooner we can fix bigger problems within society. young guys doing burnouts just need some where to go and do them where they won't affect others , young men love to ride motor bikes so we should provide a place for them. not near my place lol.

I agree with David, Birdwood is the best area, great neighbours very quite and huge blocks. It's a no thru area so not much traffic and no laneways between the houses, that helps.
