Box Hill

"Convenient but unappealing in parts"

I have lived here for two years.

PROS - There are some nice pockets like the areas around Albion Rd and Surrey Park with leafy, tree-lined streets and beautiful-looking Californian bungalows. Plenty of parks in the vicinity like Box Hill Gardens and the lovely Surrey Park. Very convenient for shopping, food and public transport. You can get to the CBD quicker than from many areas in the inner city on the morning express trains.

CONS - The Box Hill Central/mall area is pretty unappealing and badly needs a facelift, with questionable youths hanging around after school (annoying but not threatening), not to mention untalented buskers and people soliciting you for donations/causes. The traffic around the shopping area can get very bad on the weekends and during peak-hour which also makes the area somewhat unpleasant.

The key to finding a good property is to locate one on a quiet street within walking distance of the station/shopping area but far enough away so that the traffic/noise is not an issue.
