St Arnaud

"A hard nut to crack for an "outsider"."

The town of St Arnaud is visually a pretty one, with its history deeply implanted within the 1850's gold rush. The buildings in St Arnaud are mostly from that time and are pretty much as they were back then. The town offers a good supermarket, library, swimming pool, many churches. It has a hospital, doctors surgery and chemist. The town is well serviced for most things you would need and you dont have to leave town to get them. Employment is thin on the ground unless you are in the loop and are related to a local you wont get much of a look in for work. Townsfolk are pleasant enough but view an outsider with suspicion. House prices are very affordable and there are some gems to be had within the property market in St Arnaud. There are much worse places to live, but unless you have a "key" into the local community, such as a child at school etc then this might not be the place for you.

Tylden

"A little gem that most people pass through."

We came to Tylden to escape the rat race, and raise our kids in a happy, safe environment. Tylden Primary School is one of the best in the Macedon Ranges, with excellent facilities and teaching staff. Tylden has a great little friendly community. Tylden it is in easy reach of the surrounding towns of Woodend, Trentham and Kyneton and less than an hour to the Melbourne CBD by either car or train. This little gem of a town offers many things, and will impress anyone wanting some quiet rural living, where it is still safe to let your kids play outside in the street.

Great for

  • Quiet and safe for kids
  • Beautiful rural views
  • Large blocks of land, compared to Melb.

Not great for

  • Very little public transport, having a car is a must.
  • Cold climate and wood heating is expensive, there is no mains gas.
