Bundeena

"A wonderful place to live!"

I've grown up in Bundeena over the past 20 years. It is a place that I know well and is close to my heart. Surrounded by the Royal National Park and beaches it is a very interesting and picturesque place to live. You're always seeing different wildlife, whether it be kookaburras, lorikeets, wallabies and echidnas, there are always surprises!

We have a large general shop, cafes, post office, doctor, primary school, child care and restaurants. While it's not a massive lot of shops, there is enough for the little things and when you want to do a big shop my family usually head to the Westfield at Miranda which is about a 30 minute drive. People tend to be put off by the drive into the Naitonal Park, but after a while you learn the road and it becomes a relaxing part of the day - it's also a lot faster during the mornings and night, driving to and from work compared to the weekend traffic from visitors - expect it to take you 20 minutes. It's a 45 minute drive to Sydney airport and 1 hour drive into the city. There's also a ferry service that runs from Bundeena wharf to Cronulla wharf, just under the train station. It runs on the hour, every hour, during the day.

As far as security goes, my experience has been that it's very safe. My family has never had a break in and we occasionally leave our house and cars unlocked. Also to point out during bushfires, our town has never lost a house, which I think is due to the excellent Bundeena Fire Service and also the fact that we are surrounded by water making it very easy for the water bombing helicopters to drench and control any fires that pop up. It's handy as the airport is quite close, and yet fortunately in normal circumstances we get very little aircraft noise - I believe the National Park has quite tight restrictions on air traffic.

I highly recommend Bundeena and Maianbar to anyone looking for a sea change! It truly is an undiscovered beauty and a great way to escape the pace of the city... you just might not want to leave once you get used to it.
