Muswellbrook

"The untold truth about Muswellbrook."

The truth is Muswellbrook is great for single miners who are looking to stay / live close to work. My husband works in the mines while I work in a admin role in town. Child care is really hard to get and expensive. Rent is very expensive for what you get. Not much of a choice in schools. Yes mining is on the towns door and we are forever cleaning the dust off things. The highway running through the middle of town devides the town and don't "consider living on the southern side of the highway" my neighbours tell me "thats where the jail is". I am told this is the forum that you paint a really positive veiw of town in order to sell your house, hence the reason for all the great reveiws of Muswellbrook. But this is the truth. I wished we bought in Singleton like everyone recommended when we first came to the area.

Great for

  • Good rental return
  • Endless employment opportunities

Not great for

  • Expensive to live
  • People aren't friendly
  • Dirty industrial town

Who lives here?

  • Singles
  • LGBT+

The jail is out north heading Scone way. But a number of 'rough' types live in south Muswellbrook, its cheaper and considered the bad side of town, though the government housing people are trying to spread them everywhere by building apartments all over town and relocating the south residents. And before anyone gets cranky yes i know some very nice people who live south and there are some new estates there as well now so the area has got a better name now than it did say 10yrs ago.

The public housing dropkicks have completely taken over the Wollombi rd area, making it totally miserable for those of us who pay private rent or own homes here. "Rough types" doesn't even come close to describing how disgusting these people are!!

I've needed dealings in Singleton and can say how rude the people are there! A lot ruder than Muswellbrook, to be fair. Their coal dust is worse than that in Muswellbrook.

@sorpleo - interesting comment - that was an option we were looking at as well.
