Karana Downs

"A tale of two suburbs"

We have been living in KD for 4+ years now. KD is 2 suburbs in one. One area is fully serviced on small blocks, typical suburbia. The other area is rural parkland, where block sizes are large (4000 sq m + or 1 acre +), with septic only. This is my area. Living on 3 acres has its ups and downs, and in KD I mean this both figuratively and literally. Mowing is a bit of a bitch as it takes me 5 hours on my zero turn. You can get it done for you as there are plenty of handymen around. The wildlife is great, except that all the bird calls start at 5.00am. Mt Crosby school is great as my granddaughter goes there. Don't come here if you don't like dogs as almost every family has at least one, and unfortunately, some can be heard barking at night. There is no nightlife, no public transport (except a small bus that takes you to the park and ride on Moggill Rd each 45 mins) and no ADSL in rural KD. Golf course is very good but very hilly (hire a cart), and the eating out is mainly pub type food with pub type quality. Nearest shopping centre is Karalee. Very little of rural KD was flooded. Neighbours are far away but quite friendly when up close. The neighbours include young families, older families and older retired couples, so quite a mix. Real estate is a little pricey, but you get a lot for it. Soil is crap for growing plants but not to bad to build on. And lastly, when the big storms are trashing other suburbs, KD has always missed out.
