Rhodes

"Greedy developments with little or no planning"

Rhodes is the most over-priced suburb in Australia. Despite issues with pollution and contamination in the area, greedy developers have been building projects after projects with no little development or community facilities provided by the government and that's why Rhodes has the highest vacancy rates in Sydney. Issues with Rhodes are following:

1) 90% of the units are owned by foreign investor who have paid astronomical prices and have driven the local buyers out of the market.

2) Canada Bay council has little or no interest in the area except for collecting tax from greedy builders and issuing parking tickets. None of the tax collected from Rhodes has been re-invested hence complete lack of community facilities.

3) No schools nearby and no plans for building one. The nearest school is 15 minutes walk or 20 minutes drive in the traffic gridlock. Most areas in Rhodes have no school coverage at all. How can you build 5000 units and not build a school?

4) Unsafe at night - huge student population and petty crime is common at night time.

5) Just one Childcare center covering the whole suburb.

6) High strata rates ($1000 and over),

7) Very slow internet due to long distance from Concord Telstra Exchange.

Not great for

  • Slow internet
  • Possible contamination & pollution

Liberty Grove

"Great community for young professional couples/small families"

This area has attracted a lot of young professionals and families with small children due to its location. It is 20 minutes drive and 15 minutes train to CBD and 20 minutes train to North Ryde which is home to many multinational companies. There are a lot of MNCs just walking distance to Liberty Grove including Nestle and HP which makes this an ideal place to live for people working in those international corporations. You are just a stone's throw away from Ikea homebush mall which is a modern shopping center in Sydney and you are also next to Sydney Olympic Park which has best sporting facilities in the whole country.

The downside is that it is a relatively small community and it can be hard to find a place in Liberty Grove because very so few come on the market due to very high demand. If you plan to move there, give yourself at least 3-4 months to find the best apartments because there are only 30-40 sales in the whole year which also goes to show that residents are relatively very happy with the area.

Compared to Rhodes which is becoming a concrete jungle with little or no planning, this community is privately situated and very well planned. You also come under catchment area of Concord West Public School and it is just an easy 5 minutes walk from most parts of Liberty Grove compared to Rhodes where you would have to cross a very busy Home Bush Bay Drive, a train line and walk for 15 minutes and most of the Rhodes area is excluded from school catchment anyways.

Great for

  • Community feel and 24 hours on-site security
  • Best for families with small children
  • Community, facilities
  • Sharing of pools, parklands and walkways.
  • Transport options with train, bus, car and ferry.
  • Very close to IKEA and shopping centre.
