Tregear

"And the good points are:"

Yes, Tregear has some problems, so did Petersham, Stanmore, Glebe, etc, everywhere I've lived before. What we do have in Tregear is mostly quiet. Only occasionally are there problems here. The reserve is huge and while it is a bit shabby there's lots of odd hidden areas that are interesting to find. There's a lot of great people here who will look out for each other. And maybe the best thing is the tolerance. You can be any shade or sort here, there's less problems and more acceptance than there is in the fancy pants suburbs. You give people a fair go here and you'll be treated well. So, come to Tregear if you aren't judgemental about poor people or those who have had rough lives, and you will find it a comfortable suburb full of good and interesting sorts.

I think your review is wonderful.
I once had a home for sale in Tregear ( I was working a long way out of the area at the time) it was the 1st time id ever heard of the suburb or visited and ......well....... Let’s just say I never wanted to go back there
(I didn’t sell the house either!)
But what you have reviewed here are not the streets ,the houses, the shops, as everyone else seems to talk about in any review of any suburb on here
What you have done is reviewed the people, and what you have taught me is that if you look deeper there is good in every corner of the world even if it appears a bit rough on 1st inspection.
I don’t doubt that there are wonderful beautiful people in Tregear in fact if they all have half your humanity and Humility then my 1st impressions of the suburb where dead wrong! And after all isn’t it the people that make the suburb? I sincerely commend you on this review it is now one of my favourites.

you review is great because what matters is the people you are surrounded by not the shops and parks after all you are gonna be living in a home where you have neigbours and its great when you know that your neighbours are good people. i recently bought a house in tregear because its getting really expensive here in lakemba and as a young family we cannot afford to buy a home here, so its going to be my first time ever living in tregear and im happy to say before i bought the house i met my neighbours and they are the nicest people i have ever seen very welcoming and i truly felt safe and thats when i knew this is the right place to bring up a family.

once again great review.

Hi, I grew up in the tregear area and while it was nice and very accepting socially, I dont think its okay to label people as fancy pants or assume people who live there hate poor people? Isnt that slightly ironic considering you obviously value acceptance? And yet you are not very fond of these people you have most likely never mingled with. I moved to the eastern suburbs about 2 years ago and have felt just as welcomed by the community as I did in Tregear. As well as this I have found most all people very humble - most, if not all of the people living in the East that I know are not actually old money - just like myself, they have worked very hard to get where they are. So frankly, it is downright offensive and even ridiculous to be labeled as such. If anyone, I would understand the meaning of gratitude as I have worked so hard to get where I am. It is not fair or possible to label and make assumptions about a place you have never lived. I dont understand why some people are so hateful. This comment section is filled with comments like this.

All this bad perception of Tregear is almost ancient history. There are millennials living here now, young families, young couples who don't give a hoot about decade old perceptions. There's still quarter acre style houses here, ready to be renovated and occupied by younger cashed up couples. In the last month or so, a few of what seem to be public housing fibro style homes have sold. I live on the next block from a public housing complex, and I've never heard a peep. So instead of holding onto what the area was, focus on what it is. I have a feeling Tregear may have massive investment and infrastructure improvements coming within the next 5 years. They've already started updating the streets/markings. Ours got redone a month or so ago. That's a sign the local government is investing directly into its improvements. Gentrification starts with small things like road upgrading, investors renovating and selling, which is what we're starting to see here. From what I've read, the airport being built here in the West will have a 20 min direct line to St Mary's, which is less than 10 minutes from here. That is sure to drive up the values in this area, as people may look to public accommodation. There is a bit of commercial development happening around here too. Big commercial complexes not 10 minutes away, undergoing improvements. Excellent for encouraging local settlements of immigrants.

Now the prices, as a first home buyer, I saw the potential in this area, and I could not argue with the price of my 3 bedroom townhouse.

Wowee! Cheap as chips, and I now have plans to landscape and make minor improvements to the home. I like it here.
