"Home of Blinky Bill"
Warrimoo is a small town in the lower Blue Mountains. Connected to the city by train and the Great Western Highway, you can drive through it without ever noticing! That, however, is it's charm. The marjority of the suburb is quiet and leafy, with many houses backing on to bushland and valleys. These are a number of lowely walking tracks and lookout points to be enjoyed by outdoors types, and many streets have sidewalks, making the area largely wheelchair and pram-friendly (there is no access to the station by wheel chair - closest access in one suburb away at Blaxland). The area is well served for schools with the John Wycliffe christian school (Co-ed, K-12) on Rickard Rd, as well as a primary school. The local high school students largely attend Blaxland high, which is served by buses. The area is very family friendly and safe, ideal for families and those who prefer a quieter (and less expensive!) life. With nearby Blaxland shops, the area serves all the basic needs, and it is a fifteen mintute drive to nearby department stores and retail centres. Many of the residents are long-term and are quick to welcome newcomers and give you a smile.

"Friendly town with train line to city"
Blaxland is a town in the lower Blue Mountains that has many long-term residents. There is a strip of local stores along the highway (including an award winning IGA Supermarket and an excellent parmacy which is open long hours and has a delivery service). The retail area is connected to the train station by overpass foot bridge. The town has a number of restaurants including Thai, Chinese, Pizza and general takeaway as well as a small tavern. Further toward Glenbrook, the Brooklands shopping centre houses the ever-popular Monties pizzeria (bookings recommended) and also has the busier pub, the Lapstone Hotel (known to locals as the 'Lappo'). With both a high and primary school in the suburb, it is an ideal area to raise a family. The train line has express services that connect to Sydney via Parramatta, making it possible for professionals who want a tree change to do so. In addition, the train station has wheelchair access via ramps and lifts and is often staffed, making disabled access easier - many stations on the Blue Mountains line are not particularly good for this.
The cost of living out here is much lower than the city, but if you love to hit the nightlife, you may find it a bit quiet!
For the physically inclined, Blaxland has two gyms, one is 24 hours, and there are plenty of bushwalking options in the area. In addition, the neighbouring suburb has a pools complex which is open throughout most of the year.

We are looking to buy a 3-bedroom house in Blaxland to settle. This will be our first home. Any suggestions on which side of Blaxland to pick? Glenbrook-side or Mount Riverview-side? Any streets to avoid? Many thanks
Mayallbeings, nearly all parts of Blaxland have their good points. The Blaxland postcode is divided into Blaxland, East Blaxland then out to Mount Riverview. Blaxland East Public School has a good reputation and is the largest in the area.(about 400+students) People often try to live in the catchment area of this school for their kids but to be honest all schools in the area are good. Blaxland East has a good community feel and is safe and quiet. It has a modest sized shopping centre with butcher, convenience store, petrol, chemist bottle shop, coffee, bread, flowers, hairdresser etc. Mount Riverview is the same postcode and is probably a little quieter but once again has a great community feel. A small friendly school services this part of town and they have a Chinese Restaurant and a good convenience store. There are a couple of churches in the area which draw large gatherings if you are into that too. I like living next to bushland and there are lots of houses with this option but there are plenty of houses with flat blocks and fenced yards also. The main shops in Blaxland are on the Highway with IGA supermarket, post office and a variety of stores. Directly behind these shops are some government housing units but either side of these there are some very nice properties. Glenbrook is ahead of Blaxland for village feel and cost but Blaxland follows close behind in popularity so you could hardly make a mistake buying anywhere in the town on either side of the rail and highway. Don't forget that Warrimoo is a similar lovely area with slightly more affordable homes. Good luck with your house hunting and don't panic, nice houses come up from time to time, just be ready to act when you see the right one.

I heard there are public housing commission properties in East Blaxland.
Not sure which streets they are in, avoid East Blaxland.
Just a small strip along the top of Old Bathurst Rd. Not troublesome as long as I've notice over the past 45 years.
Any issues with the gov units on Hope st? Thinking of moving near by. Is it safe at night walking round the town and from station? Thanks
hl0111 Government housing might attract people with "issues" but equally they can be very normal, nice people who have not had the same start to life as the rest of us. Or maybe they are people with disabilities. At the end of the day they are just people. I haven't heard of any particular danger walking around Blaxland in normal evening hours. I probably wouldn't be walking alone very late in the evening in any town. I don't think there would be much of a problem walking home from the station but you must always take care and be alert of your surroundings. It's not a ghetto and there's actually plans to gentrify the area from the station down through to Hope Street which should make it even nicer than it is now.

Housing commission area? Are you serious? This is a sweet building with a few apartments! There is no housing commission estate in Blaxland. We are homes nestled in the bush often w stunning views and wildlife galore. Spacious surrounds and clean air. A hop skip and jump to CBD.
