"Sitting quietly as best kept secret"
Train station (trains every 15 mins into & out of city - travel to Central station in 24mins) & buses are great (including Great Circle Bus). Amazing constant cool breezes in streets. Locals are quiet. Close to shopping centres in all directions and has Brisbane's biggest markets, the Rocklea Markets, on its doorstep. Big floods are not frequent, that is, only happen when many other Brisbane suburbs are also flooded, that is 37 years in between = 1974 & 2011. Wivenhoe Dam did not exist in 1974 and was badly managed in 2011 (class action in progress - possible outcome 2017). 2011 floods occured just after years of drought, then La Nina kicked in ("The Queensland floods are caused by what is one of the strongest if not the strongest La Nina events since our records began in the late 19th century," said Prof Neville Nicholls at Monash University and president of the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society.) Wivenhoe Dam was being managed to keep water at its capacity because of the long drought, but, amongst other reasons, as a means of flood mitigation it is no longer managed in same way, hence if La Nina kicks in again the dam should be better able to cope.
All things considered about Rocklea, beautfil breezes and housing is very affordable with great potential for renovations.
Great for
- Brisbane Markets
- Close to city and perstigious suburbs (Tennyson, Sherwood, Graceville, Chelmer)
- Cheap double-blocks with huge potential
- Close to Trains & Buses
- City views
Not great for
- Need more people to realise the HUGE potential
- Many old house to renovate (renovator's dreams??!!)
