"So far so good - it will definitely continue to grow."
We have been in Redbank Plains almost 18 months. We live just off school road which seems safe enough so far. We were first attracted to the area due to rent affordability and for how close it is to Springfield Central train station (about 50 minutes to Brisbane CBD for work). I've ended up getting the train from Goodna as it's easier for my husband to drop me off on his way to work. The Ipswich line is express after Darra which is great so it only takes about 30 minutes to Brisbane CBD (and $2 cheaper per trip to SC). We were told to avoid areas around Henty drive as we were told there's a lot of crime around that spot. I'm on the local crime watch page and there always seems to be break ins, cars stolen and creepy people hovering in backyards at night .
We're on a wide road and is seems most people hoon down our street. Being near the school traffic is also a nightmare around drop off and pick up. I can see they're going to have to add more lanes to School road eventually with all the development happening up the other end towards White rocks. White rocks is a conservation park and has a few hiking trails and picnic tables but not much else (no bbq's). There's a new fancy looking playground just been finished on Redbank Plains road (down from the Town Square) which is great for families. The big Town Square shopping centre is now also finished with lots of restaurants, takeaways and everything else you could want (Target, Coles, Woolies & Aldi). The Pig & Whistle has also just opened which now at least gives a night life hang out. It's only a 10 minute drive to Orion shopping centre or Redbank Plaza which is also good.
The house we're renting is definitely on black soil (as others have mentioned) and we're a bit concerned with just how much the yard has changed in such a short time. We would NEVER buy the place. It's right next to a storm water easement and every time it rains more soil from our block disappears through the retaining wall only a couple meter's from the house. The house also has some cracking in a couple of places but we hope not to be there much longer.
Also it's close to USQ which is good for students.
