I lived in chermside recently for nearly 2 years and our neighbours on our whole street were all very friendly and we never had any trouble. You are still very close to everything - only 8kms from the city, close to transport, schools, lots of medical centres, the huge westfield chermside, bars/clubs, lots of restaurants and cafes and large selection of take away places.
