Rivervale

"Dodgy and Disappointing"

I moved to Rivervale from Coolbellup to be closer to work. I was excited at the thought of living somewhere where I didn't have hoon neighbours doing burnouts at all hours of the night, and where I would feel somewhat secure. I was mistaken. In the 8 months that we have been living here, we've heard countless domestics that have spilled out into the street (even had to call the cops once because, judging by the screams, we genuinely feared someone had been murdered); we've had numerous break-ins into our complex; and I am now really nervous spending the night alone in our unit.

One night my husband and I decided to go for a run around the neighbourhood. After encountering 3 separate, aggressive drunks in the space of about 10 minutes; needless to say we have never gone for a jog around the neighbourhood again.

I do believe that the proximity to the Bursewood Casino and Great Eastern Hwy are contributing factors to Rivervale's problems. But I am certainly looking forward to moving far, far away when our lease expires in July!

Great for

  • Close to city
  • Close to airport

Not great for

  • Dodgy neighbours
  • Road works on Great Eastern HWY
  • Unsafe

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Singles
  • Students

Hi. I am considering a property in Rivervale and your comment is making me think twice. If you don't mind... which street are you at?

Rivervale is a great suburb I went to school here, and walk around the suburb for a jog or walk. I feel perfectly fine. You obviously aren't a local as you spelt Burswood with and e. I'm only 13 and I feel perfectly safe. and dec03 if your planning to move here. Don't go to the dodgy part eg. Bottom of Gladstone Rd, Desmond Pl, Cambell St, or Gerring crt. The best bit is around the park at Chamberlain Rd, and St Kilda Rd. To get the best part you have to have lived there.

I agree with qertyk5, if you are in the nicest area (the pocket between Orrong, Great Eastern Hwy and Francisco) then you are pretty good. I moved there (from Subiaco) and actually generally find people friendly and lovely. I walk or jog every single day (sometimes early morning in the dark) in the area with no problems. The dodgy people are moving away from the city and whilst there's the odd one or two that you see they have never bothered me. The security patrols are an ongoing presence for peace of mind.

I currently live actually next to Burswood casino in the sky rises. The casino has nothing to do with the people. I barely hear or see anyone and i am about 200 yards away from its front door. Granted there are often bogans in the place but that doesnt mean they wander the streets. Just saying.

Hi, I'm considering to buy a property in Surrey road between Alexander Rd and Sydenham St. I'll appreciate if anyone can help me if it is a good area without dodgy ppl around?

I 100% agree with this review. Dodgiest suburb I have ever lived in. We are forever calling the police and making crime stoppers reports...
If you want to move here, do yourself a favour and just don't.

Considering Kooyong Road, any feedback appreciated

I only have experience around 2 parts of Kooyong.. the part near great Eastern hwy, and the part near IGA near the park... if neither either of those sections, AVOID!!

It really depends in Rivervale on the area you live and it's highly variable. In my immediate area, Armadale Rd near Roberts Rd I have had zero issues with neighbours in the 5 years I've lived here and there is still some state housing in this section. But you often hear sirens in the near distance around Surrey/Orrong Rd.
