Narrabeen

"Live where you'd like to go on holiday"

The only real negative to Narrabeen is that Pittwater Rd bisects it. Imagine dredging a culvert through paradise!! That's the effect.

As long as you live a block or more away from Pittwater Rd, Narrabeen is just heavenly. On one side, you have the Pacific Ocean with unbroken, uncrowded sand from North Narrabeen to Collaroy, surely one of the world's best beaches completely open to the public. On the other side, you have the peaceful Narrabeen Lagoon with its stretches of waterside parks and barbecue areas. (Bring some breadcrumbs for the ducks.)

The suburb has excellent schools, good restaurants (Bliss and Nokaew Thai are inexpensive standouts), a reasonable Woolies, a prize-winning butcher, the best fish shop on the Northern beaches and several above average cafes. If you're not addicted to sand and sun, the area also has many great golf courses, including the BEST public access links course in Sydney, Long Reef.

Narrabeen is connected to North Sydney and the CBD by the mediocre and expensive gov't bus service, so it's a suburb where having a car is a necessity. (That's the story of the Northern beaches really.)

The suburb is gradually being taken over by 2 to 3 storey units, but most blocks are well constructed and relatively tasteful. Areas like Ocean Street and the couple of blocks close to the rear of Narrabeen Lakes Public School are in high demand.
