Liverpool

"A sorry tale of a sorry city."

It is unfortunate that it comes to this, but as of late life in Liverpool is just not the same.

The socio-cultural "melting pot", is a subvert and almost paradorical jab at a racially tense area. If one is to walk the streets of this small-ish "city", you will be able to see what I mean. Walking through Moore St as the night approaches will give you a glimpse at the downtrodden rubbish that blows into this city. Or perhaps catch some of the fine (yet somewhat tardy) public transport to the other satellite holes (Miller, Ashcroft, Sadleir, Greenvalley) and watch as you are taken on a tour of drug addicts nodding off on the seat next to you, or old drunkards swearing at young children about a lack of "r'pect".

But distancing oneself from the mere subjective feelings of such, what of the more observable wonders of this wonderful city? The two public highschools, Liverpool Boys and Liverpool Girls are sorry centers of "Education", with the boys school being particularly bad. The HSC results of 2008 and utterly shocking, with barely a few students scraping it into University. The local Westfield Shopping Village (or 'Westies' if you are an intoxicated local) is a wonderful place to do shopping if you want an air of faux style surrounding you. I am a male, but many female friends do find it rather uncomfortable to walk around Westfield (or anywhere in Liverpool for that matter) without gaining the attention of some parthetic low-life. Many people I know are instructed by their parents to not go on the street at night; yes, people living in fear in such a "wonderful" little place.

There are some positive points about the Liverpool, NSW, though. Food is cheap-ish, and the Asian supermarket in Westfields (V-Plus), are brilliant places to get food and the like. If you go to the train station expect the sight of a hoddie-clad teen being searched by police while their cute little doggie sniffs at your crotch. Worry not though, this is supposed to make you feel "safe". Another honourable mention about the glory of this fine place is the fact that there are MANY bus services to take you to better parts of Sydney.

Don't take my word for it. Come and sample Liverpool life for yourself. But don't come during midday, when all the shops are open and the junkies are at their minimum, no. Stow away the jewellery and the nice watch, and take a gentle stroll around Forbes St, Moore St, Northumberland St as the sun begins to dip below the horizon and have a blast with the locals as they try and make off with your small change.

Loulou.

Haha quiet an author mate! May i add to your pathetic comment, that i graduated for Liverpool Girls' High School and at the age of 21 am finishing my masters degree! Its always up to the individual to study. Also, yes they may be a lot of drugs on the street, but it happens everywhere, only difference between us and the Eastern Suburbs, is that they have money and can cover up their addiction! Get out if you are such a hater, clearly you do not deserve to be part of a good community
