It's generally not a sight for sore eyes, but Ashfield is a down-to-earth, convenient and non pretentious neighbourhood with many aspects of the progressive inner west and a diverse multi-cultural population (more than half, %-wise). There are surprisingly strong pockets of community in some parts of the neighbourhood; parks are well utilised, people walk to work and to the supermarket, and shopkeepers are friendly. Moving to Ashfield started off as a financial decision, and I never expected to love living here as much as I do.
