Overbuilt area, Mortlake is a mixed bag but we definitely felt quite unsafe compared to living in the Lower North Shore. We moved to be closer to my new office & for a slightly bigger place however there is a particular Real Estate Agency that manages alot of the properties in the area that are not only useless but morally bankrupt. They did try to make up issues to claim some of my bond back (never had this issue in my 8 years of renting!) however as soon as I mentioned NCAT they backed down....I later found out a friend of a friend had taken them to court for something similar and they were ordered to pay $20k to the tenant.
The suburb tries to be prestigious but it has a dark element. There are constantly loud hoons racing around at all hours of the night with bikes & loud cars, there are bikies frequenting the area with some violent incidents.
Overall we would have moved away sooner if it wasn't for covid lockdown & other personal matters.
It also looks close to the inner city but takes a very long time to get in & out of the peninsula.
