Caringbah

"Close to the beach in the Sutherland Shire"

Caringbah was actually divided into two separate suburbs a few years back; Caringbah and Caringbah South. Caringbah is more convenient than Caringbah South and has all the major shopping, train station, restaurants etc. Caringbah South is a more leafy area, a little further away from the shops but very quiet (which is what people like about it). Caringbah South is the more upmarket of the two suburbs and has areas which adjoin the waterways of the Port Hacking and a good number of waterfront homes. Caringbah is just one suburb from Cronulla beach which is roughly about a 5 minute drive or you can catch the train. It is about a 40 minute drive into Sydney CBD and similar by train.
There are a number of good primary and High Schools in Caringbah. Three of our four kids go to Laguna Street primary (Caringbah South) which has a great name and we are very happy with it. There is also Caringbah and Burraneer Bay primary schools near by both of which have good names also. High schools close by include Endeavour sports high, Caringbah high (selective) and Woolooware high.
There is a good number of restaurants if you like eating out but Caringbah Hotel is really the only place that caters for those who like night life.
What we really like about Caringbah is the conveniences. There is Woolworths and Coles supermarkets, every major bank, Chemist Ware House, Bunnings, McDonalds, choice of medical practices, Sutherland Hospital, Kareena Private Hospital and Miranda Westfield is only 5 minutes away.
All in all, Caringbah and Caringbah South are great family suburbs. Go for the south if you like peace and quiet and are prepared to spend a bit more, but either way you'll enjoy all the benefits these suburbs have to offer.
