Panania
28th February 2024

"Lived there as a kid"

I love Panania, I moved there with my mum & dad in 1958. Yeah I know a long time ago. No 2 Carson St to be exact.
I spent so many wonderful years there.
Would go to the Panania Star cinema which is now a Catholic Church.
Mum and me would get picked up after the movies by Bert the bus driver.
I went on to work in the media for 60 years and now I'm retired up in Port Douglas QLD. I was chuffed to see that if you google Panania Wikipedia it lists me as someone notable from the suburb along with my old school mate Bryan Brown and the Waugh brothers who played some reasonable cricket. Also a couple of lads from Human Nature who I was lucky enough to run into in Las Vegas and informed them of our connection.
Every year and anytime I'm visiting Sydney (doing it next week) March 2024 I go for a walk from Revesby to Panania past our house and down
past Panania North Public School that I attended as a young tacker.
Love walking and last time I was there I walked from the Panania pub to Bankstown then to Punchbowl then to Riverwood and caught the train back to Revesby where I had a cold ale at the Revesby Workers where I'm a member. I went to school at De La Salle Kingsgrove and on this upcoming trip I'll be staying at the Kingsgrove Hotel (because I can) and try out the Kingsgrove RSL where I've just become a member.
I love the suburbs on the East Hills line and to me it's like travelling back in time.
I have some great friends there and I think I'll always walk the streets of Panania and Revesby even when I pass.
My wife has instructions to scatter my ashes at no 2 Carson St.
She'll tell the current owners it's good for the garden
Best wishes if you now live there.
You're very lucky people and I'm envious.
