"A nature-lover's retreat."
Catalina (Lake Catalina side) doesn't get a good press because of the public housing component but it is, in my opinion, the most picturesque of all the non-beachfront suburbs in Batemans Bay mainly because of its bushy, hilly nature and a lake and a swamp. Indeed it has overtones of Lane Cove, Sydney. The place needs some TLC particularly from the Council in keeping the wetlands free of rubbish. In short, the area is a hidden gem and just a few minutes from town. There are too many suburbs in Batemans Bay that are treeless housing estates. Thankfully Catalina isn't one of them. Been here 14 years and not moving!
"Good Natured Folk but Chatterboxes"
Stunning natural beauty not appreciated by locals and the local Council. Nearby hills scarred by cleared areas for electricity pylons and service stations built in wrong places (previous nature reserves). It's a tatty place but has its own charm in that it still retains a old fishing village atmosphere. With sophisticated planning vision it could be made the Riviera (sic?) of the NSW far South Coast.
