Scarborough

"Not for professionals or families"

Whilst the area is close to Scarborough beach, the Mitchell freeway and public transport, it has a continuing problem with anti-social behaviour. One third of houses in Scarborough are rentals, predominantly housed with young trades people, with associated problems, especially with noise and parties. A friend of mine purchased a unit to rent out, and it was completely wrecked by the tenants.

Scarborough beach is not generally safe on the weekends for families with young children, with significant low socio-economic anti-social groups driving in to Scarborough beach from Perth's inland suburbs, causing noise and crime. The area has real problems with traffic on the weekends. High rise apartments are continually being approved by the local council to block your ocean views. If it is the beach lifestyle you are after, try Trigg, North Beach, Karrinyup or City Beach.

Great for

  • Beach access
  • Easy access to the city

Not great for

  • High proportion of rental properties
  • Anti-social behaviour
  • Influx of people on weekends
  • Nightlife on the front

I have lived in Scarborough for nearly 40 years and have never experienced this anti-social behavior you mention. Absolutely love where I live. I have looked up and down the coast to see if there was better places to live many times over those years and haven't found it yet.

Karrinyup

"Close to everything yet still peaceful and quiet"

Karrinyup is a beautiful and quiet suburb 15 minutes north of the CBD and 3 minutes from arguably one of Perth's best beaches, Trigg beach. Areas north of Karrinyup road are safe and quiet, with most residents being owners, unlike surrounding suburbs to the south. It is a great place for professionals to raise a young family, with St Mary's and Hale School close by, parklands, Lake Gwelup, Karrinyup shopping centre and 2 golf courses. Stirling train station in 5 minutes drive and is one stop on the express trains from the CBD. If you want to be able to sit back and relax after a long day at the office, or enjoy a bit of peace and quiet with the kids, Karrinyup is for you.

  • Peace and quiet
  • 15 mins to CBD
  • Near beach
  • Neighbourly spirit
  • Lack of traffic

Not great for

  • Dogs not on leads
  • Karrinyup shopping centre busy on weekends
