"Underrated - Leafy and laidback"
Carlton is super safe, chilled, and quite leafy. It’s been evolving lately - for the better - which is nice.
There’s a great little cafe/bakery scene - Unfiltered, Self Raised, Love of Beans and a few more popping up in Kogarah like Bourke Street Bakery - plus an incredible patisserie that’s been there for years; absolutely stacked with cakes (and trays of moussaka) that’s probably my favourite gem.
Solid local dining: a great pub on Jubilee Avenue, a surprisingly good Chinese restaurant at the RSL, and excellent yum cha at the leagues club. Kogarah is super close so you’re never short of an easy, local option.
The streets are leafy and full of character, with some beautiful heritage homes on some streets. Also plenty of decent primary schools nearby like Carlton Public and Carlton South.
Trains every 10 minutes into the city in peak hour which is super helpful if you work in the CBD.
