"Shooting gallery"
Lived on Garfield street for a year in a warehouse conversion from late 2009 to late 2010.
The location is fantastic especially if you are young with no children. The all nations pub is around the corner, the vic and the aviary are a stones throw away. The hive Shopping centre has opened on the abbotsford side of victoria street and there is plenty of Vietnamese options to eat.
However...... and its a pretty big however. The street is rife with heroin. My partner and myself were living directly opposite a dealer who was known to the police and was still allowed to operate. The street is littered with syringes and there were always addicts siting in cars shooting up or often just on the street between the cars. We were constantly being woken up by addicts carrying on in the street at all hours of the morning. The Dealers themselves try to do as much as they can to minimise the amount of attention they bring upon themselves and would keep a low profile but the addicts that come in for the fix are pretty full on. There were a number of times after walking home from the pub where i passed a car with addicts shooting up in a car with their children in the back. I would call the police to report then incident and as soon as you said "Garfield street" you could hear their voice change. Just before i moved out of Garfield street i was walking back from lunch with a friend who worked close by. We had noticed a lot more addicts in the area of late and asked some patrolling police if there had been an increased drug activity in the area especially around Garfield street. At the mention of "Garfield street" one of the officers laughed and said (i'm not making this up) "Ha! Garfield street is the centre of heroin activity"
If you are thinking of moving onto Garfield street make sure you check it out before you commit
