Millgrove

"A much overlooked gem"

I came here in 08 when I bought a dooer upper and fell in love with the place.
My friends said it was a bit rough, yeah compared to what? Ringwood, Lilydale, not at all, I have made some great friends here and the neighbours are great, keep themselves to themselves unless you need a hand and always up for a chat.
Millgrove is an ecclectic place with rundown budget 2 bedders for 200k upto 5-10 acre properties for 5-800k so you can expect a mix of people to go with that.
What really made me stay was how happy it made my kids growing up here with the yarra, the warby trail and the O'Shannessy aqueduct trail.
Safeway is 5 mins away in junction along with the pools and even a Vic roads outpost.
Fantastic food and drink all around with the pubs and restaurants and after about 9 it all goes pretty quiet unless someone has a birthday or its New years eve.
Hang on I didn't mention the views or the access to the state forest for dirt bikes or 4x4.
Maybe not everyones cup of tea but it is for me.

I wish I lived in the same part of Millgrove as you do. The area where I live is made up of vicious and vindictive bogans. I am an older person and life here is very unpleasant.

I left Millgrove 2 years ago and quit working in welfare because of the vindictive bogans and endemic clique mentality through out the area. Even disabled people get robbed and assaulted. Domestic violence is a huge problem and you're not safe if you help women trying to flee. Even their own families will turn on you. They don't see it as a problem that needs to be fixed. The crime is so bad even staff were stealing from the food aid pantry where I worked. I was shocked that people just accepted this behaviour. The police don't turn up it you mention that you live in Millgrove. I would avoid the whole Upper Yarra entirely.

Thanks, Lydia and Gobron-Brillie for putting words to what I could not quite pinpoint when house hunting here. Very pretty area but "something in the air" not quite right. What a shame.
