"A Warning for Dog Owners and Families"
As someone who has lived and grown up in Bundoora, I feel compelled to share my experience, not out of malice but as a warning to those considering making it their home—especially if you’re a dog owner or have a family.
1. Ineptitude of Whittlesea Council
The Whittlesea Council makes reporting dog-related issues unnecessarily difficult, prioritising their convenience over the safety and well-being of residents and their pets. This attitude not only neglects public safety but also contributes to the chaos.
2. Irresponsible Dog Owners
Some dog owners in the area are extremely irresponsible. Not only have I seen dog fights in the local dog park and have heard cases of kennel cough and other zootonic diseases being spread in there as a result of medically neglectful owners, but even the dogs and their owners in our neighbourhoods are just as bad.
For instance, there’s a household down the street with a boxer and a bulldog who are both known for being vicious, yet the owners often leave their front gate open. Another neighbour with a German shepherd has let their dog escape multiple times in the past, and on one occasion, it tried to attack my dog and my sister.
These owners show little concern for the safety of their dogs or others. Beyond being a danger to the community, these loose dogs are also at risk of being hit by cars.
Final Thoughts
If you value a safe and enriching environment for your family or pets, I urge you to reconsider moving to Bundoora unless you have no other options. The challenges here are too severe to ignore, and a better life for your loved ones likely lies elsewhere.
I dont know what part of Bundoora you live in. I live in Arthur Street and neighbours are wonderful and respectful. Young professionals are moving in with their young families, everybody is happy to chat and help with whatever needed. I always walk to the shops through the park at all times and never had an issue. In fact way less druggies and crazy people than in Preston or Reservoir. My little ones play in the front yard all day long I love Bundoora.
