Roxburgh Park

"Infrastructure hasn't kept up with expansion"

Been living in Roxburgh Park for 7 years, whilst the suburb has expanded greatly in regards to population, unfortunately it's infrastructure (in particular roads) has not kept up.

Previously it would have taken 5 minutes at worst to get from the Arena estate to Pascoe Vale road, but now it takes at least 10 minutes and is usually over 20 minutes during peak hour periods. This is due to only 3 roads leaving Roxburgh Park to Somerton road (Aitken Boulevard, Roxburgh Park drive and David Munroe drive). It has become so bad that people are regularly pulling the "Roxy Hook Turn" by taking the long way around the roundabout from Roxburgh Park Drive into Somerton Rd as it can easily take 5-10 minutes off your drive by not waiting in the correct lane.

Other areas haven't kept up with expansion, the station is now generally full by around 7:20am (in particular on Tuesdays and Thursday) so if you start at 9 in the city it's best to drive to Coolaroo station to get a park, which means waiting in traffic again.

Roxburgh park shopping centre and the station is generally pretty dirty as well, with garbage flying everywhere (I recommend going to Craigieburn Central or Greenvale for your weekly shops).

For a couple in your late 20's/30's there isn't really much to do, the gyms are all chain gyms in the area and restaurants/ cafes are fairly limited (with the exception of Forget Me Not in Greenvale and 1B pizza or alternatively going up to Craigieburn Central and getting VHM bros (genuinely great Vietnamese food).

It's not all bad, there are some great sporting clubs for young families with Hume Tennis club being one of the top tennis centres in the country.

Safety wise it's not as bad as people say, have had one incident in Roxy Plaza where a guy spat on me and attempted to assault me (after he nearly ran me down with his car and I raised my hand going what the hell), but after some poor drivers in the area speeding haven't had any problems (in particular near the Arena complex). Hooning in general has been addressed recently though, and there are less unlicensed dirt bikes taking the roads than there used to be (this might a side effect from the congestion though).

Due to house prices, if you can work majority of the time from home and have a young family you can get some great value, but honestly I wouldn't recommend the suburb.

Due to the congestion issues, we have sold our house and are moving.
