"Manor Style Homes Set on Acreage Blocks in a Spectacular Valley at Affordable Prices"
Samford, a semi-rural area, is a relatively short distance (approximately 22km) north west of the Brisbane City CBD. The 12km leisurely country drive from the edge of the city (ie from Ferny Grove), through forest reserves, is the start of the 'winding down' process after a hard day at the office in the City. It's like 'escaping' to the country, away from the crowded city and all its hustle and bustle, at 5pm every day. When I drive over the mountain and have that first glimpse of the spectacular Samford Valley, it's always a great feeling.
Every week, many people from the city and suburbia travel out to Samford just to get a taste of the lifestyle for the day (for lunch, a BBQ in a park, a coffee/pastry in a coffee shop, a walk down Main Street).
Samford still has that country charm. It's common to see cattle and horses (and quite a few sheep, goats and alpacas) grazing around paddocks in the valley. Wildlife abounds (wallabies are always pottering around). Watercourses / dams feature turtles, blue claw yabbies, shrimp, eels, fish and frogs - All great fun for children. Birds are every where ! It's a great site to see wild water fowl (eg Wood Ducks, Pacific Black Ducks, Swamp Hens etc) nesting around a dam on your property and birds such as Blue Wrens flitting about the garden.
Residents in the area are talkative and friendly. There is a good mix of great people, from varying professions (from wealthy executives) to retirees.
I would purchase a property on a hillside to get great cool breezes and, of course, spectacular, sweeping views of the valley and distant mountains. A dam on the land is a fantastic bonus (well worth seriously considering) as it not only acts as a great water feature (and attracts wildlife to your land), it may be pumped from to water lawns and gardens.
As for mowing, it's great to get on a ride-on-mower, it can be very relaxing just cruising around the land enjoying the views (the whole atmosphere).
One of my favorite streets is Riverine Court, Samford Valley, as it has fantastic views over the valley towards Mount Glorious, Mount Nebo, Camp Mountain, Wights Mountain and the House Mountain Range.
