Hurlstone Park

"For young and growing families"

I moved here in 2007 and love it. It was a great little discovery and still is. The Cooks River parklands are enjoyable everyday of the year, even when it rains it is a great place to listen to the raindrops falling on the river and the leaves move in the wind. As other people have commented after work you go down there for a walk and you can disconnect, you can go for a bike ride, exercise, play football, etc. There are many public transport options which may be relevant to you if you are a professional. Depending where you rent/buy there is Canterbury and Hurlstone Park stations, buses to the CBD (including prepay express), Balmain, Rozelle, Canterbury hospital, Roselands shopping, etc. There is also an Aldi supermarket nearby, liquor shop, post-office, super friendly and fresh butchers shop in the village, Canterbury swimming pool/Gym, coffee shops, medical centre, Grumpys Inn Bar, newsagency, etc.

Hurlstone Park (HP) is surrounded by the suburbs of Ashfield, Ashbury, Marrickville, Dulwich Hill and Canterbury, but in my view HP nicer as there are less apartments and it is not so crowded. Having said that, all those suburbs have become popular over the years, yet Hurlstone Park has been a slow mover in comparison, but more people are discovering its' charm: federation houses, wide streets, family-friendly, lots of green spaces, good public transport, and quiet. You can say hello to passerby's and get a friendly reply. I don't hear annoying dogs barking at night, but I do hear an occasional possum or bat at night, in the morning i hear birds chirping out font in the garden from Kookaburras, Rosella's to blue wrens! On summer Sunday afternoons some neighbours are gardening, mowing their lawns, kids are occasionally riding down the street on their scooters, walking their dogs, etc.

If interested in buying here, you should also check out Canterbury Councils webpage for details regarding future precinct plans, rubbish removal policies, etc. As a home-owner you will have the right to two (2) household waste collections per annum of 3m square for example.
