Orford

"Small town - beautiful, peaceful ambience"

Orford is at the beginning of the East Coast drive, which goes right up to St Helens. A delightful village of about 500 people, plus a lot of visitors in the summer. A popular spot for Tasmanians having a relaxing beach holiday. Residents can be as busy as they choose with local activities and groups to join. The IGA is well stocked, with friendly staff and the PO and Newsagent are very capable and helpful. Orford has 5 places to eat out. Medical centre is ten minutes drive. Specialists visit on a regular basis. The nights are almost totally silent with masses of stars. Weekend traffic doesn't exist. Park right outside everything. Your blood pressure will go down.

Great for

  • Magic beaches for the whole length of the town, where you can be quite alone most of the time. Friendly people. Only an hour from Hobart and airport.

Not great for

  • Lack of public transport. You have to own a car. No dentist. Clothing shopping in Hobart.
  • Mobile phone access is fine, but not Vodaphone. Optus and Telstra are the main suppliers.

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Families with kids
  • Retirees
  • Tourists
  • LGBT+
  • Country Lovers
  • Beach Lovers

Thanks Sanda for the review. We are looking to move there and wonder what clubs we could join?
