Nicholls

"A diverse suburb"

It is a large suburb which incorporates the Gold Creek Village and Harcourt Hill. There is the choice of two schools, Gold Creek School (public) Holy Spirit School (catholic). Gold Creek is a P - 10 school with separate primary and high school campuses. Holy Spirit School and Gold Creek share a primary campus and have good facilities including a massive artificial turf sports oval. John Paul Catholic College will be built next to Holy Spirit School, starting in late 2012. There are two quality golf courses in Nicholls, The Gold Creek Country Club and the Gungahlin Lakes. The Gold Creek Country Club also has a Club Lime Gym and a heated swimming pool. If you like walking or going for a jog there are kilometres of walking tracks through the suburb, around the lake or in the bush on Mt Percival. The Gold Creek Village is a tourist destination with lots of attractions for visitors, Cockington Green, Bird Walk aviary, Dinosaur museum, Reptile Centre, craft shops, cafe's, restaurants and my favorite The George Harcourt Inn. A few options for eating out and takeaway either at the local shops or restaurants at Gold Creek, or the Gungahlin Lakes Club. The local shops are among the cleanest I've seen in Canberra. The neighbours are friendly and our street holds a regular street party around Christmas time which is well attended. There are a number of townhouse complexes scattered through the suburb and traffic congestion is rarely a problem, except on Kelleway Ave when school finishes and on Curran Drive in the morning peak hour, however the new Clarrie Hermes Drive extension has lessened this problem. Nicholls does have a problem with internet access, I know of quite a few people who are forced to have mobile broadband due to ADSL not being available. This should change with the NBN to be rolled out within one year according to the government website. There is no medical centre in Nicholls however there are numerous choices in the Gungahlin Town Centre, 5 minutes drive away.
