South Windsor

"If you want to get away from the ratrace and still be in communiting distance, then South Windsor might be an option for you"

Most important thing to know about living here: we have the original NBN - fibre to the premises. It is glorious.

My partner and I bought a place out here about 8 months ago with no idea what we were in for. We wanted a place of our own to get away from the horrible renting cycle in Sydney and didn't want to pay a ransom for a shitty fibro and asbestos filled house, nor wanted to pay strata.
We knew our options were limited and decided to go further out.

Cost of living here is very low, which is great if you're on a budget. BUT insurance options for flooding are limited and council rates are quite high.

If you want to get away from the ratrace of Sydney, then the Hawkesbury is the place to be. It's quiet and peaceful, and great if you like bike rides.

I'll be honest, it sucks that trains are only half an hour apart. This would be my biggest gripe about living here.
We're a 5-minute drive to Windsor station where there is plenty of parking.
You do need to be organised if you're commuting to the city (which is just over an hour on the train) and have someway to pass the time. If you don't drive, then you might want to start bike riding, as the bus routes times are limited.

The closest fast food chain is at McGraths Hill. We've put on a bit of weight from trying out all the amazing places in the surrounding suburbs. Keep in mind, most restaurants/take away places close early.

I've experienced the good and bad from the local public hospital and I would still say it surpasses what friends have experienced in other western suburb hospitals.

We've also had to call the police on three occasions and the response times from the police has been amazing. They take their job very seriously here.

It's a 20-minute car drive from the new Marsden Park development too.

If you want suburbia, then South Windsor is not the place for you. We're at least 20 minutes from the closest (decent) shopping centre.

This is my first winter here. It's not just cold, it's freezing. Make sure your place has heating otherwise you'll be doing a lot of crying.
I'll be honest, I still don't feel comfortable running around on my own once the sun goes down. It is VERY dark and the street lights don't cover nearly enough.
