I once had a bloke knock on my door in northcote and run away....to the house across the road.....presumably to rob us all if no one was home. I retrieved my large umbrella, intercepted the chap and promised to ram the umbrella into a very dark space and break his arm in several places if i ever saw his ugly face again. Security has been fine since that date for me and for all of my neighbours.....maybe the chap i interviewed passed the message on to his mates.
Northcote has otherwise been all 5 star living in my 12 years there. The cafes and restaurants have taken off big time. Combine that with the trams, reduced traffic in high street, proximity to the city, views from ruckers hill..... the mix of old and new residents, multiculturalism. Parking can be tricky now and then, but it's never been a problem in my driveway. capital gains to die for!! its got a sense of the old st kilda about it. love it!!!
