Carlton

"Nice quiet little suburb"

I've lived in Caringbah for a long time and now I've lived in Carlton for over 2 years. Caringbah was nice but too far from the city via transport, the trains from Carlton are great (25 min to Town Hall) but they arrive every 30 min in off peak so I have to work around that (that was the same for Caringbah, so no loss there). I live alone so safety was important and Carlton feels quite safe, I haven't heard of anything bad happening here.I live near the train line but I actually don't hear it a lot, so its nice and quiet. My neighbours are a friendly bunch so I feel even safer!

Carlton doesn't have a whole lot in terms of anything (except a gym and some decent restaurants on the Railway Pde side, especially the Japanese place!), but Kogarah and Hurstville are 5 minutes away for all my shopping and entertainment needs.

The suburb itself is quieter on the Carlton Pde side, with more parks and leafier, although people still prefer the Railway Pde side (not sure why). Lots of families, old people and young couples live around here, so there aren't too many ruffians living about!

I've been very happy here, so what more can I say :). Kogarah would be better to get more trains, but it is more expensive. I think Carlton is a wonderful choice as it is still "affordable".

I believe that the Railway Pde side is more of a preference as there is a greater abundance of amenities extending outwards towards to the east. For instance, you have the park in the suburb's south east corner, which has more than adequate green space, and itself, is in close proximity to Jubilee Oval, and a very good local primary school. This side of the Railway line also contains Anglo Square, whereas I think you will find that the Railway Pde side only has access to these amenities towards Bexley. Bexley, in itself, however, is severely overcrowded, and the shopping strip is too far from the heart of Carlton. Additionally, while on the Railway Pde, you are geographically closer to top schools such as Sydney Technical High School, Bethany College and Hurstville Public School boosting the education sector, one can easily access the hospital and the heart of Kogarah, containing all necessary needs as you said.
Also, Kogarah is technically closer than Hurstville for much of the suburb I would imagine, but the issue with both of this suburbs where you can gain much essential needs is that they are slowly being gentrified and hence, overcrowding, particularly in Hurstville. Seemingly, it is witnessed to a lesser extent in Kogarah, but I would there is pedestrian and car traffic on Railway Pde and southern parts of Railway Pde Nth.

Basically, residents on Railway Pde side tend to go to Hurstville Westfield for shopping... I am just one of them, and have never been to Bexley... TBH
