"Quiet, with a High School"

Quiet except for school drop off & pick up times. High school makes considerable noise during lunch times. Sundays the Korean church uses the High School grounds and makes parking impossible. Although they are very polite. When living there we had a function on a Sunday, and asked them not to park in the street so our guests could. They did so very politely with no complaints.
Not as clean as most areas in Hunters Hill because of the school.

The Point Road

"Oh So Quiet!"

Deservedly has the reputation for the best street in Woolwich (or Hunters Hill). Most houses are waterfront. Because it is a road to nowhere (except the ferry) there is very little traffic. I am always amazed when I get out of my car, and all I can hear are the birds. No aircraft noise. Some parking issues with ferry commuters, but most houses have there own parking. Very quick commute to the city via the ferry. And a bus via Victoria road if the fog stops the ferries.
Amazingly friendly. Most people have been there a long time, and community spirit is strong.
Someone one said, if you have made a fortune and want the world to know you buy a waterfront in Mosman, if you have made a fortune and don't want anyone to know you buy a waterfront in Woolwich. It is full of those sort of very unassuming wonderful people.

Hunters Hill

"Great Family Living"

We have lived in Hunters Hill for 10 years, and like most people, don't plan on leaving.
Someone who once ran a business in the area told me their time in Hunters Hill was their happiest because the customers were so friendly. "No-one is trying to impress anyone, they are all very happy with who they are and where they are in life"
I think this is the key to the great community spirit in Hunters Hill. It is not a trendy suburb. People don't move to Hunters Hill unless they really want to live in a quiet friendly family suburb. So it is very unpretentious.
Good schools, good food, very clean & safe, and so central to everywhere in Sydney.
But don't tell too many people, they will all want to live here!

Woolwich Road

"Busy but good"

The main road through the peninsular, can therefor get quite busy especially at school dropoff and pickup times. But many off the houses on this road are on large secure blocks, so although you may be able to hear the road sometimes, it seems like a world away. It is very friendly. Lots of people walk up and down the peninsular, and everyone always says hello. One Saturday morning & came out to find someone had pulled out some of my newly planted shrubs on the nature strip (on there way home from the pub I suspect). I threw them back into the garden, and thought I will come back after breakfast & replant them. When I returned, someone had replanted them for me. I have know idea if it was the guilt ridden culprit or a friendly passer by, either way, it confirmed that this is the sort of place I want to live.
Plane noise dissipates considerably as you head down the peninsular. Parking is rarely a problem as most houses have their own off street parking.
Good choice of eating out at both ends of Woolwich Road, but no general store on the peninsular.
No Foxtel cables so you must get a Satellite dish which is not really a problem, except occasionally during storms.
Lots of beautiful street trees keep the air clean & make it a wonderful place to walk. Unfortunately the possums also think it is a wonderful place to live. But I think that happens everywhere there are trees.
