Altona

"Underrated beauty"

I've been happily renting here for the past 6 years. Altona is so underrated but that's okay. People in Altona seem to be genuinly happy with where they live regardless of what others say. Lots of beautiful parks and beach. The main street, Pier street could be better but it's pretty and does the job (off the top of my head.... there are Coles, video ezy, a couple of cafes, 2 chinese restaurants,1 fish&chips, two pizza shops, 2 chemists, newsagent, post office, 1 two dollar shop, 1 kebab shop, two viet/thai restaurant). Local markets, community events etc are nice also. Sadly I'm moving out soon because I purchased a house somewhere else but I will buy a nice house in Altona one day and come back :)

Great for

  • Friendly residents & great community feel
  • Beautiful beach
  • Enclosed suburb which feels safe (End tip of Millers Road)
  • Bayside, Huge Cherry Lake, 3 Rivers, Nature Reserves, Parks, Large open spaces
  • Many sports clubs, Arts & Community Centre, Theatre, Museum, Golf course, Bayside Festival, Beach Market, many recreation activities
  • Proximity to CBD, 3 Zone 1 Train Stations, No throughput traffic, Safe & Quiet, Low Population Density
  • Perfect lifestyle for any age or interests

Not great for

  • Hoons and stupid people in the beach during summer
  • Graffiti here and there
  • Too expensive now
  • Bias, prejudice & lack of knowledge towards this suburb
  • Has seaweed problems
  • Oil Refinery & Industries - but these are located fairly far away from residential areas
