Kerr Street

"One of Mayfield's best streets"

I think Kerr St is what contemporary Mayfield is all about - comfortable, stylish homes and great neighbours, all within a few minutes of shops, cafes, transport and services. Most of the houses have heritage character and many have been recently renovated by professionals and young families seeking a home AND garden close to beaches, the CBD and the airport (all within 20 min). There is a strong community spirit, where neighbours help each other out and get together at the local park with dogs and kids.

Kerr St is perfectly positioned in the heart of Mayfield just off Maitland Rd. Many new businesses have opened along Maitland Rd in the past 5 years. All the basics are here - medical services, supermarkets, post office - plus great cafes, casual restaurants, pubs and gourmet delis. The Stag and Hunter hotel (near the end of Kerr St) is now one of Newcastle's best live music venues.

When I moved to Kerr St 9 years ago I found that the seedy reputation Mayfield was tagged with was already seriously out of date. Since then the place has gone from strength to strength and now has more in common with trendy Newtown or St Kilda than the dodgy capital city suburbs it was previously compared to. An amazing place to live if you are after a city fringe location with great character.
