Heathcote

"Great for families, very quiet."

We moved to Heathcote in 2003 and have lived here since. Most people looking for houses in this area look at Engadine first. Initially we thought it was a little bit too far away from the main shopping area of Engadine, however having lived in both Engadine and Heathcote, I much prefer Heathcote. It seems more of a drive to the shops, however many parts of Engadine are much further away and its only a few minutes on the highway. The local IGA supermarket recently opened reducing the need to go to Engadine for last minute purchases.

The local public school on Roseberry street is excellent, a decent size of about 300 kids, big enough for at least two classes per year, and small enough that the principal can know all the kids. Most parts of heathcote are very very quiet, except for the roads backing onto the highway or Heathcote road.

In some ways its two suburbs, Heathcote East and Heathcote West. The East side tends to be a little more expensive, but the west side has easier access and is closer to the shops. The High school is on the East side, the primary school on the west side (with a very small primary school on the east side) both are good schools.

Heathcote is about 4km from the Engadine phone exchange, so most ADSL tops out at about 5Mbps (average). However its serviced by foxtel cable allowing 30mbit cable internet at blistering speed. Mobile phone coverage for Telstra is excellent, Optus & Voda are ok on the west side, but not great on the east side.

Heathcote is a bush walkers paradise, flanked on both sides by national park, very little aircraft noise.

Disadvantages of Heathcote is its distance from the city for office workers, 50min on the train. Weekly ticket costs $47. Engadine only costs $37.
