Wilsons creek is one of those old hippy enclaves thats come up a bit in the last few years. Its got some very lovely people there of course, but these are often over shadowed by the left wing green hypocritical sticky beaks. In other words, its a small close community where the nay sayers get the most power because they have the most to say. The nicer people get on with their lives so you don't hear from them much. more power to them.
If you want to be one of these you can have a gorgeous environment where you can think, read, write, paint or just hang out naked in your veggie garden. Schools in the area are pretty appalling so dont expect your kid to get a good education. They may do well at the steiner school if you manage their education yourself and use the school so they can get a good social network. Watch out for mushrooms, pot, lsd and all sorts of other things with your kids though. There's lots of dealers in Mullumbimby and your kids are sure to come across them. Best way to deal with this is to keep your kids educated in this regard. If you dont have excellent communication with your kids you may end up with a rude shock when your 13 yr old comes home with spirals in his eyes complaining of ants crawling under his skin.
In short, like all small communities it has its real problems which can be overcome with strength of character and an open mind, blended with a good dose of caution. It'd be great if the area would be populated with sensible people ... it could be utopia in that case .. but what community doesn't have in-sensible people? Though I must say there is a bit of an overdose ('scuse the pun) of those here.
