Port Lincoln

""Seafood capital of Australia""

Port Lincoln is a small city, population around 14,000. Its a peaceful, self sufficient town with main industries supporting the community being agriculture and seafood. See Wikipedia for more demographic info.

The good -

- takes 5 minutes to get to work, school, appointments etc.
- Surrounding Port Lincoln is many amazing beaches both kid friendly and surfing. Can have a tent on a beach all to ourselves in the national park only 20 mins away. A bit further away (half hour - hour) are many gorgeous coastal towns including Coffins Bay (famous for their oysters) which also boasts a national park with access to more amazing beaches.
- Saving a lot on petrol and insurance is cheaper as well compared to Adelaide
- Most houses have breath taking views, as most of Port Lincoln is up hill from the front foreshore
- Being the biggest town in the region, Port Lincoln has its own Hospital, 3 public primary schools, 1 public high school, St. Josephs Catholic school R-12 and new Navigators Lutheran College R-12.
- Many options for living.. newly developing Marina, older houses within walking distance to the town centre, or get a rural feel lifestyle in many of the existing or newly developing areas all within 5 - 15kms from town.
- Airport 20 mins away with 2 airlines, Regional Express and Qantas currently operating a number of flights daily to Adelaide.
- Many dining out options. Chinese restaurants, Indian, Italian - Bistro style, a few local fish and chip shops, Pizza bars, Fast food includes KFC and McDonalds, plus the numerous kid friendly hotels including the newly established Port Lincoln Hotel.
- Numerous local playgrounds and parks scattered through out the town, most with free BBQ facilities and a view!
- Great for recreation and sport

The bad-
- not many options for evening entertainment, local hotels host local and visiting bands and DJ's.
- Adelaide wins hands down for retail therapy, but can find everything you need at local shops.
- Telstra seems to be the only phone network that provides good reception for mobiles and mobile broadband in surrounding areas.

In summary, lacks variety that a big city has to offer, but I wouldn't trade that for all the things Port Lincoln has and has access too that the City doesn't.

Edwardstown

"Close to the city and the beach, but still an affordable place to buy"

Appears to be a suburb on the move. Less than 7km's from the city. Fantastic access to public transport, with train, buses and tram not to far away. Whilst it neighbours with more pricey suburbs, Edwardstown remains much more affordable. Plenty of shops nearby, and the Castle Plaza shopping centre. Close to all the pubs and resteraunts South Road and Marion Road have to offer. I believe it was once a housing trust area, which may be why its still affordable. But with these areas being updated, and plenty of new builds popping up, it will probably soon follow suit with the surrounding more expensive areas. Hidden throughout are grassy parks and play areas.
