Should I be concerned about the chemical complex and refineries in Altona?

Altona, VIC 3018 is located within the Hobsons Bay local government area, part of the Melbourne (Greater) Region in Victoria.

I would love to move to Altona (from Point Cook), but my wife is worried about the proximity of the chemical complex and refineries to the residential areas and the potential health impacts this may have. Is this a valid concern?
