Armstrong Street has nice neighbours, a tree-lined ambience and leads into the main street of Charlton, which is a very safe town.
The town's people are all genuinely friendly and care for each other. They are very community minded and there are lots of organisations to join if desired. These include Lions, Rotary, CWA, Red Cross, Probus, Senior Citizens, Gardening, Bowling, Croquet, Men's Shed and Angling Clubs.
Charlton is also well served by churches.
Sporting facilities are great - footy, tennis, swimming, harness racing, etc. A new building, Charlton Park Multi-Purpose Facility, is nearing completion.
Charlton College (primary and secondary combined) achieve outstanding results annually and St Joseph's Catholic School also has a commendable reputation.
Medical facilities are excellent. A newly built medical centre and hospital are combined, as is a new ambulance station and emergency helipad. There is a newly purchased Community Car to take people to medical appointments in Bendigo or Melbourne.
The Rex Theatre (In original art deco state) is terrific. Community events such as an annual film festival, up-to-date films and live performances are frequent.
There are two supermarkets - one licenced.
A very good newsagent, an excellent bakery that makes delicious cakes, bread and very good coffee and a good butcher.
A variety of trades people are all great and readily available.
