There are plenty of young families. Ashburton, Solway and St Michael's Primaries all have solid enrolments.

The biggest jump happened when Alamein Primary was closed and houses built there in the 1990s - 5 years later there were suddenly 100s more kids enrolling at the remaining schools.

Over the past 25 years:
Solway Primary's student numbers have crept up slightly - maybe 10%.
Ashburton Primary's have increased about 10-15%
St Michael's Primary's have increased considerably - close to 40% (but it had low numbers at one stage).
They're all growing, but a manageable rate.

There are many more childcare/kindergartens than there used to be, but that addressed a terrible shortage that used to exist.

Has increased enormously over the past 5-6 years, used to be mainly elderly, now the younger couples are moving in because of access to,great schools.
