What is the best neighborhood for students in Atlanta?

What type of environment are you looking for? There are a few popular neighborhoods for students... but, I guess what would consider a neighborhood to be the "best", would depend on the specific things that you desire to have in a neighborhood.

If you can afford it, I would recommend either the Midtown, or the Buckhead areas. Both are full of fun and nightlife. You'll have plenty of shopping and dining options. Both communities are just minutes away from schools like, Georgia Tech, Georgia State University and Savannah College of Art and Design. The only downfall is that costs can get pretty expensive for both locations. If your budget is a little lower, you can always consider looking for a roommate to help share the costs. Good luck!
