Is Ward Pound Ridge a good place to take a youngster for a first camping trip?

I agree! I think it's a perfect place for a first camping trip with the kids. I would recommend one of the campgrounds at the top of the hill from the Nature Center. There's a playground there and nice grass area to play catch etc. Another good one is the camp sites near the Kimberly Bridge. There's a little stream there that the kids can play in the water or go fishing.

Definitely! You're not too far from civilization (there's even a deli right by the entrance). There's also a Nature Center on the property where you can teach about the local ecology to the young ones (and find out some interesting facts yourself)! They'll learn about the flora and fauna that exist right where they're sleeping. Public bathrooms are on the premises, and there's plenty of them located throughout the campsite.
