I have lived in Mascot, a couple hundred meters up from Church Avenue for 2 years, almost on the corner of Oriordan Street.
The noise is noticeable and when watching tv it can be annoying (with door left open) however when weighing up everything else about the area I have no problems. For us it is the take-offs that make the noise and because take-off directions are changed due to winds I would say half the week its noisy the other half its not.
You do get used to the noise and as mentioned above everything else is fine except watching tv with the door open and how often does one do that anyway?
Also, I would note that further down my street towards Kent Road, the noise is actually very annoying there as the landings literally take place over your head. You know when you come in for a landing at the airport and you look out the window thinking “I would hate to live there cos its so close” well the Kent Road precinct is this area~.
Hoping this helps

It is not bad at all unless you located on the western side of Botany Road, where you can hear the planes taxing along the runway when the wind is either strong or dead still otherwise you are not really effected as planes do not fly over the suburb due to how it is situated. I live in the suburb I have never been affected to the point where i needed to raise my voice or anything like that when I renovated I was not required to make any extra sound proofing allowances as my home fell outside the airport noise zone.
