The crime rate is close to the city average (which is 3-4 times national average). The definition of what is safe depends on your standards for safety. If you can "tolerate" an occasional (once or twice a year) gang shooting or arson four blocks away, then Brighton Park shouldn't be a problem for you. If you get nervous about news of even the slightest crime being committed within a five mile radius, then you may want to consider elsewhere.

Brighton Park is about average. Sure, there's some crime, but it's not a dangerous neighborhood. At the same time it's on the south side and isn't known as a 'safe' area either.
