Best coastal suburb between Brizzy and Gold Coast?

We're relocating from Melbourne and looking for a nice coastal place to live, handy to a surf beach but also central to Gold Coast and Brisbane as my partner will work in Molendinar and I will most likely be based in Brisbane. Be great if anyone can recommend a nice suburb, we're a young active couple, restaurants/bars aren't important, but moreso outdoor activities and the beautiful beach vibe :)
