Brisbane or Gold Coast?

Hiya,
I'm moving back from the UK after a few years away with my children who will be going into Year 7 & Year 8 . My husband has already started working out there in Brisbane but part of the reason we are moving back is to take care of my dad however he really wants to live on the Gold Coast.
I do not want to pay for private education so I'm looking at Indooroopilly SHS, The Gap SHS, Kenmore SHS in Brisbane living on these catchments OR Varsity Lakes SHS on the GC.
Ultimately we have all agreed what's the best place for the kids we will go but can anyone give me any insights to any of the areas listed above, any of the schools and what it's like for 12/13 + year olds. Education is very important but also balance with quality of life. We have family and friends in both areas so that's not really an issue either place.
Personally, I'm a little bit concerned about the "party lifestyle" the Gold Coast can offer for exploratory young teens and I feel Brisbane suburbs above are family friendly and good in that regard but what is there to do for teenagers? I grew up on the beach and loved every minute of it but did get myself into some mischief! So I'm somewhat confused..

Any help, ideas, links - anything would be appreciated!

Not sure about all the schools you mentioned, but Varsity has a good reputation. Not sure about Brisbane because I've never lived there.
